Mark Twain's masterpiece Huckleberry Finn caused for dispute between the school board of Waukegan Illinois and the african-american father of and eighth grade student. The book is about two ambitious children, Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, but this isnt what causes the commotion; the book was banned in Illinois and many other places because of the use of the "n" word. With the banning of the book, people are not only missing one of the first truly American historical novels, but it is also a moving book depicting an escape from slavery while Huck journeys down the river with a runaway slave, Jim.
this was a good blog but I could only read the last paragrah. the time is 7:10 so it's late and I tried.
ReplyDeleteI believe the book should have been banned. Nothing against the author but if there is excessive use of the n-word then it's probably not a suitable reading selection for immature kids, despite the fact it's one of the first historical american novels. Something so degrading as the n-word should not be repeated so many times in book despite purpose.
